Cynar | Rum | Orgeat | Elderflower | Lime
The Artichoke Hold is a modern classic tiki-style cocktail created in 2019 by bartender Jeremy Oertel at the Brooklyn bar Donna. It is known for its complex balance of funk, bitterness, and floral sweetness, serving as a "relative" to the Bitter Mai Tai. The drink's unique name comes from its use of Cynar, an Italian amaro made from artichoke leaves and 13 other herbs and plants. Despite its diverse ingredients, the cocktail is highly refreshing. The "funk" of the Jamaican rum pairs with the vegetal bitterness of the Cynar, while the elderflower and orgeat provide a floral, nutty sweetness that rounds out the sharp lime acidity.
